Please wear your Yellow UU Shirt.Purpose:To move City Council we need many many people on this Zoom News Conference.
It is not expected that you will be asked to speak. However, a sea of yellow shirts will make a profound statement. UU Senior Minister the Rev. Dr. Colin Bossen joined other faith leaders associated with the Metropolitan Organization in calling on the City of Houston to create a Rental Assistance Fund to help Houstonians to pay their rent due to the unprecedented economic impact of Covid 19. He also joined other faith leaders at the City Council meeting on Tuesday to present this need. At this time indications are that the call for a $100 Million set aside for this purpose is facing a limited response from City Council. The City has received $408 Million from the Federal Cares Act for their Covid 19 response which by regulation can not be used to offset city budget deficits. There are other designated funds in the CARES Act for Testing, Health Care, and Education. Through investigation TMO has established that at least 70,000 Houstonians face eviction. Although execution of evictions has been delayed by court action until later in May, for people that are not otherwise receiving benefits from unemployment or stimulus checks this represents an extreme emergency. Using the information below please RSVP and then put on your yellow T Shirts and Join the Press Conference on Zoom Tomorrow, Friday, May 1st, at 10:00 am to lend your support for this ask to City Council.
