The religious landscape in America has changed over time. Pew Research has documented that the percentage of Christians is declining while the percentage of no faith (“nones”) is increasing. Most “nones” were raised in faith traditions but became unchurched as adults. As they get older and start families, many want a spiritual education for their children — but not in the faith of their own childhood. This often becomes a quandary in the search for an accepting, non-dogmatic, spiritual home for the family.
The new Tapestry Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston is a spiritual home for “nones” and Christians alike. In fact, people from all faith traditions are welcomed, as well as people with no faith tradition; people who believe in a God, people who don’t, and people who let the mystery be.
Tapestry is a home for diversity — diverse in faith, ethnicity, history and spirituality. We are aligned in standing on the side of love, justice and peace. We are courageous, curious, and compassionate people who desire to make a difference in the world for good. We believe in dignity and respect for all people, no matter one’s race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, immigration status, or who you love.
We welcome your whole self, with all your truths and doubts, your hopes and worries. Our denomination is based on Seven Principles (https://www.uua.org/beliefs/what-we-believe) which supports your own free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
